Gmail to Exchange Online
Supported Gmail messages, labels and mailbox data are mapped into Exchange Online using the agreed migration method.
Google Workspace migration
Move business users from Gmail to Exchange Online and, where scoped, move Google Drive content into OneDrive or SharePoint with identities, domain changes and user cutover planned together.
Google to Microsoft
Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 organise some services differently. The destination needs to be designed around how people and teams will work after migration.
Supported Gmail messages, labels and mailbox data are mapped into Exchange Online using the agreed migration method.
Supported calendar and contact information is included where the selected method allows it.
Individual work files can be assessed for migration into each user’s OneDrive account.
Suitable shared Drive content can be planned into SharePoint libraries rather than placed under one individual account.
Accounts, licences and multi-factor authentication are prepared before user cutover.
Domain verification and mail-routing changes are planned so new mail reaches Microsoft 365.
Common scenarios
Some organisations prefer the Microsoft desktop applications, Exchange and Outlook workflow, Windows integration, SharePoint collaboration or Microsoft device-management options. Others inherit Google Workspace but standardise on Microsoft as the team grows.
This is not a claim that Google Workspace is unsuitable. Both platforms can work well. The migration should be based on business requirements, licences, workflows and the destination people will actually use.
Our process
Exact tasks vary by service, but the project remains structured and visible.
Understand the current environment, users, data and constraints.
Agree the target setup, responsibilities, sequence and scope.
Create and configure the destination before moving production data.
Migrate agreed Gmail, calendar, contact and Drive data, then complete the planned domain cutover.
Check Exchange mail flow, migrated data, permissions, user access and the agreed Microsoft security controls.
Provide clear documentation and explain the completed setup.
Scope and delivery
Depending on scope, a Google Workspace migration can include:
Security and disruption
Google labels do not map perfectly to Outlook folders, and Google-native file formats may need conversion. Sharing models and permissions also differ between Drive and SharePoint. These differences are assessed before file scope is confirmed.
API permissions, source administrator access, data volume and Google or Microsoft throttling can affect timing. A staged migration and final synchronisation may be appropriate for larger or active mailboxes.
Why Next Layer IT
Our engineers carry out the agreed technical work, explain decisions in plain English and document the handover. We keep the focus on the project rather than using it as a route into services you did not ask for.

Clear answers to common questions about scope, timing and delivery.
Tell us about your projectMany migration methods represent labels as folders, but Gmail permits behaviours that do not map exactly to Outlook. We explain the expected result and any duplication considerations before migration.
Yes, where the content and permissions are suitable. Shared business data should be planned into appropriate SharePoint libraries rather than copied without considering ownership and access.
Google-native documents may require conversion to Microsoft Office formats. Compatibility and formatting should be sampled, especially where documents use platform-specific features.
Usually, with a planned cutover and final synchronisation. Exact restrictions depend on the tools and source data, so user communications form part of the plan.
Closure or licence reduction is only carried out when included and after the agreed verification period. Source access should not be removed until the customer accepts the migrated result.
